Samish Island Aikido opperates by appointment only as a wing of Samish Island Mind-Body Medicine, and together they make up the private Asian-medicine practice of Karma Lhundup, licensed as an Acupuncture and Eastern Medicine Practitioner in Washington State since 2001.

Samish Island Aikido exists to offer the wisdom of Aikido to clients, freinds, and family, to support their health and wellness. We are affiliated with Aikikai Hombu Dojo (Aikido World Headquarters) in Japan through the Western Aikido Association in the US.

Aikido is an excellent form of physical exercise, using smooth, balanced and coordinated partner exercises in a non-competitive, cooperative atmosphere. Aikido is non-aggressive, based on the principle of blending with and redirecting forces, instead of blocking or coercing each other. It explores the anotomy and deep structural priciples of movement.

Karma Lhundup is the head instructor of Samish Island Aikido, he moved to Samish Island from Portland Oregon in 2023. Over the last 30 years he has practiced Aikido, training in over ten dojos in Seattle and Portland, Oregon. He holds a black belt awarded by Eddie Frager at Bridgetown Aikido in Portland. He is a member of the Aikikai Foundation Aikido World Headquarters in Tokyo through the Western Aikido Association (WAA) in the US. Karma travels to Portland and California a few times a year for seminars with participating dojos.

Aikido is not an art to fight with enemies and defeat them. It is a way to lead all human beings to live in harmony with each other as though everyone were one family. The secret of aikido is to make yourself become one with the universe and to go along with its natural movements. One who has attained this secret holds the universe in him/herself and can say, ‘I am the universe.
